We love them so much. We spend every minute trying to create a better life and world for them, and we want to make the most of the time we have together.

That’s why today, I started thinking, “What do I still want to do with Ricco that I haven’t already done?” “What’s on my bucket list?

Along with Ricco, I also have a Samoyed family dog (her gorgeous name is Iris). I want to do so many things with her, too!

They are 9 and 12 years old. Iris may be a senior dog, but we still have so much precious time. That’s why, in their honor and for your inspiration, I present to you the loveliest and most fun senior dog bucket list ideas!

1 Take Them on a “Yes” Walk

I do this on the weekends and when we have more time, but basically, a “yes walk” is when you let your dog lead the way. My dog has always been on a leash since I live in the city, but I let him choose where he wants to go.

This walk usually includes a lot of sniffing and playing with random dogs, but I let him. It’s his adventure.

Funny enough, we usually end up at his favorite park, where he likes to sit in the grass, just chill, and do some people-watching.

So, if you haven’t had much time lately, take your dog on a yes-walk! Don’t rush them; let them choose the way; let them pick the streets and enjoy their walk.

2 Watch the Sunset Together

Do you have a nice spot where you can end your walk and watch the sunset together?

You can maybe go somewhere outside the city, bring a blanket, and enjoy the view together.

I know we usually do things only once for bucket list items, but this can become your new tradition.

3 Go for a Scenic Drive with the Windows Down

Is there a road with beautiful views near you? Take your dog for a drive and let them enjoy the ride!

Roll the windows down just enough so they can safely stick their nose out and take in all the exciting scents. It’s a simple way to make their day special.

Bonus points if you stop somewhere fun, like a park or a pet-friendly café, for a little adventure along the way!

4 Plan a Dog-Friendly Road Trip

Do you usually travel with your senior dog? We don’t bring ours on a plane, and we don’t go on beach holidays (since he doesn’t do well in the heat), but we love taking him on weekend adventures!

There’s something special about visiting a new place and sleeping somewhere new, only to be woken up in the morning by his friendly licks that feel just like home!

If you’re working on your senior dog bucket list ideas, a road trip is a must. Find a pet-friendly place, a cozy cabin, or a small house by the lake where you can explore and have fun together.

Make sure to book dinner at a dog-friendly restaurant or enjoy takeout with your pup by your side.

5 Take Them to a Pet Store & Let Them Pick a Toy

This is such a simple joy, but it’s always worth it! If you’re looking for easy senior dog bucket list ideas, taking your dog to a pet store and letting them choose a new toy is a fun and heartwarming experience.

Watch as they sniff around, exploring all the options before picking their favorite toy (or snack). It’s such a fun way to let them have a little shopping spree of their own!

Don’t make a mess or let them touch and chew on everything, but buy them what they want. Spoil them just a little bit—they deserve it!

6 Have a Backyard Campout or Cozy Tent Night

Personally, this is something out of my comfort zone, but I know so many people who enjoy camping, and camping with your dog is a must!

If you haven’t already been on a camping trip together, you can organize a backyard campout where you can spend the night together.

You can also combine this and #4 and go on a camping trip somewhere fun, dog-friendly, and relaxing.

7 Spend a Day at the Beach or Lake

A day by the water is always a good idea! If your dog loves to dig in the sand, splash in the waves, or just nap in the sun, this is a must for your senior dog bucket list ideas.

Find a dog-friendly beach or a quiet lake, bring fresh water and a comfy spot for them to rest, and let them enjoy the day however they like best.

Even if they’re not big on swimming, they’ll love the new sights, smells, and a gentle breeze.

8 Go for a Walk in a Flower Field or Botanical Garden

This is a sensory paradise for dogs! A walk through a flower field or botanical garden is a calm yet exciting way to engage their senses.

However, not all botanical gardens are pet-friendly, so you’d better check this beforehand.

9 Organize a Dog Party

I once threw a party just for people with dogs. My apartment was a mess, but it was so much fun! My dog was beyond thrilled!

So, imagine a day when your dog gets to host all their friends and enjoy some awesome snacks!

If you’re working on your senior dog bucket list ideas, this is one of the easiest and most fun ways to spoil them.

10 Throw Them a Birthday Party

If you haven’t already celebrated dog birthdays, you have to start! From presents to dog cakes, inviting friends and family to play, and bringing more presents—dog birthdays are the best!

11 Have a Doggy Ice Cream Date

A frozen treat and a little sunshine? Instant happiness!

Many pet stores and dog-friendly cafés offer pup cups or dog-safe ice cream, but you can also make your own at home with yogurt, peanut butter, or blended fruit.

12 Give Them a Spa Day at Home

Senior dogs love a little pampering, and a spa day is a perfect way to make them feel extra special.

We call this a “snow day” because, after his bath, there’s so much hair that our whole apartment looks like it’s covered in snow.

Start with a gentle bath using a soothing shampoo, then gently comb their fur! Make sure to use a hair dryer so your dog doesn’t get smelly!

13 Make a Special Homemade Meal Just for Them

Nothing says love like a home-cooked meal! This is an easy and meaningful addition to your senior dog bucket list ideas.

If you’re not sure where to start, this guide on the best human foods that are good for dogs covers all the important nutritional info.

14 Have a Cozy Movie Night Together

My dog doesn’t care for movies, and he doesn’t watch TV, but he loves it when we rearrange the furniture, bring blankets, and cozy up. We lift him onto the sofa, and he sleeps while we watch TV.

You can share some snacks and cuddle for a relaxing night.

15 Make A Customized Senior Dog Bandana or Sweater

Make an embroidered bandana or a sweater just for them! You can also make matching t-shirts for each other!

Choose something soft and comfortable. And make sure that whatever you’re making matches their personality!

A personalized piece with their name or a cute design makes for a sweet keepsake.

16 Make a Memory Book Out of Your Bucket List Adventures

Capture all your bucket list moments in a memory book filled with photos, captions, and stories about your adventures together.

I have something similar, like a diary of our lives together (my husband, me, and Ricco), and it’s more like a scrapbook with our photos, memorabilia of the places we visited, and fun stuff like that.

You can make a special entry just from this bucket list!

17 Record Their “Talking” & Favorite Sounds

Dogs have so many unique sounds—their barks, sighs, happy grumbles, or even how they “talk” to you.

Record their sweetest or silliest noises and save them as voice memos. You can even create a soundwave print of their bark and frame it!

It’s a small thing now, but you’ll love listening to their signature sounds for years to come.

18 Create a Nose Print Keepsake

A dog’s nose print is as unique as a fingerprint! Press their nose onto clay or ink to create a forever keepsake.

Some jewelers can even turn it into a pendant, so you can always keep a piece of them close.

19 Paw Print Tattoo or Keepsake

If you want a meaningful way to keep them with you always, a paw print tattoo is a beautiful tribute.

Not into tattoos? You can also frame an ink print, make a clay mold, or turn it into a keychain or pendant. It’s a simple yet deeply personal way to celebrate them.

20 Try a New Activity

Even as they get older, dogs love new experiences! Try something gentle but fun, like nose work or a new puzzle feeder!

New challenges keep their minds sharp and make for exciting new memories!

21 Have a Playdate or Park Meetup

Social time is always a good idea! Plan a playdate with their favorite dog friend,s or take them to a quiet park where they can meet new buddies.

Even if they’re not as playful as they used to be, they’ll love the companionship and gentle interaction.

22 Let Them Choose Their Own Adventure

Let your dog make the decisions for the day!

Give them options—a walk, a treat, a new toy, or even a cozy nap spot—and let them pick what they want. It’s a simple but fun way to spoil them on their own terms!

23 Teach Them a New Trick (or Reinforce an Old Favorite!)

Just because they’re seniors doesn’t mean they can’t learn something new!

Try a gentle trick like giving paw, nose boops, or even scent work. Keeping them entertained and mentally sharp is just as important as physical activity!

24 Surprise Them with a New Flavor or Treat

Dogs love new flavors and textures, so why not let them try something special and delicious?

A new dog-friendly snack, a homemade treat, or even a small taste of something safe from your plate can make their day.
